THE .SI FIELD GUIDE
Super intelligence domains: the .si connection
Understand the September 2026 SI terminology change and what it means for .si domain branding.
SI is being used as shorthand for super intelligence in technology branding. A September 29, 2026 White House order adopted that terminology within the U.S. executive branch; .si remains Slovenia’s ccTLD.
What changed in September 2026
The White House fact sheet describes a terminology directive for executive-branch correspondence, communications and non-statutory documents. It also calls for a proposed federal definition. This is a source for the terminology event, not proof that a product is superintelligent or that the term will replace AI everywhere.
What the registry data can tell us
Register.si publishes rolling registration activity and has acknowledged increased registrations. Those counters document activity, not the intentions of every buyer. We cannot attribute all new registrations to one announcement or use them to promise future resale value.
Choose a name that outlasts a trend
Start with your product and audience. Search concise words related to your actual service rather than adding SI to an unrelated name. Test pronunciation, spelling and trademark conflicts. Use the discovery tool for ideas; each status is queried separately, so examples are never automatically described as available.
Is .si officially a Super Intelligence domain?
No. IANA delegates .si as Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain. Using SI to suggest super intelligence is a branding interpretation, not a registry reclassification, product certification or government endorsement. The September 29, 2026 White House terminology announcement concerns executive-branch language; it does not change the .si delegation. Separate those two facts when presenting a technology brand.
Why are .si domains attracting attention?
The September 29, 2026 White House announcement put the letters SI into current technology discussion, and Register.si publishes changing registration counters. This timing makes the branding connection worth examining, but neither source proves why any individual registrant bought a name. Our statistics page shows source values with retrieval times; rolling 24-hour and monthly counters are not a complete historical dataset. Treat the connection as an interpretation rather than evidence of guaranteed demand.
Should an AI startup use a .si domain?
A .si name can suit a startup when the full address is memorable, the exact candidate can be registered and the team can explain its identity clearly. The short ending and an intended SI association may be useful. Tradeoffs include the official Slovenian meaning, uncertain audience recognition of SI, and the need to compare actual renewal costs. Test the same brand across endings and ask customers what they understand. The extension does not establish technical capability or make a startup more trustworthy.
